New Bedford Mayor’s Youth Council

The City of New Bedford – Mayor’s Youth Council was created by the Mayor to be the eyes and ears of the cities youth in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and city government. The council assists city officials in the development of community projects from a youth’s perspective. The MYC in partnership with the City of New Bedford Office of Community Services is a program of the YWCA of Southeastern MA. The MYC addresses the need for leadership development as well as youth involvement in the development of city projects and raising awareness about issues important to youth and giving youth a voice. Participants learn leadership skills, advocacy, planning and organization, public speaking, civic engagement and community service.  The MYC is made up youth entering 9th grade through 12th grade.
